My FIRST SOLO TRIP

When was the first time you really felt like a grown up (if ever)?

The first time I truly felt like a grown-up was when I took my first solo trip.

Looking at the beautiful view from the plane✈️ …my first solo trip. Enjoy the ride…😉

Freshly out of the university, I was told to find my way from university back home, ALONE

I was flying with Air Peace Airline from Lagos, Nigeria to Dla, Cameroon.

That day is still so vivid in my mind because to me it wasn’t just a flight, it was a moment of transformation.

For the first time in my life, I had to take charge of every single detail, and it made me realize just how independent I had become.

I remember the day starting early, way before sunrise, with me doing my own booking online. I printed out my ticket, and the reality of what I was about to do began to sink in.

No family member was there to help me check in or sort out the paperwork. It was all on me. It was a mix of excitement and nervousness, but mostly, it was empowering.

When I got to the airport, I had to navigate everything from checking in my luggage to confirming my documents.

I triple-checked that everything was in order passport, boarding pass, visa all without anyone reminding me. It was a strange but thrilling feeling to be responsible for every part of the process. For once, I felt in control.

As I boarded the plane, I took a deep breath. This was it. I was flying on my own, making decisions, solving any problems that came my way, and it felt… incredible.

Sitting by the window, watching the runway disappear beneath the plane, I couldn’t help but feel proud of myself. (Silent giggles…☺️)

To me, that flight wasn’t just about traveling from Nigeria to Cameroon; it was a significant step in my journey toward independence.

Growing up, I’ve been pampered, no doubt. I’ve had the support of my family to lean on, but I’ve also worked on becoming independent. I’ve learned to take care of myself, to make decisions, and to handle challenges.

That solo trip was proof of that. It was more than just a flight, it was a lesson in resilience, in believing in my own ability to get things done.

The truth is, being independent isn’t just about doing things on your own. It’s about the growth that happens when you step out of your comfort zone.

It’s the mental and emotional strength you build when you push yourself to face new experiences.

That trip taught me that I’m capable of handling whatever comes my way, and it’s a lesson that has stuck with me ever since.

I’m still growing, of course. Each day is a new opportunity to learn, to become a better version of myself.

Every challenge, every experience, continues to shape me, making me stronger, smarter, and more resilient.

I now understand that the key to growth is not avoiding challenges but embracing them.

So, that’s my story.

The first time I truly felt like a grown-up was when I took that flight alone, from booking the ticket to landing in Cameroon.

It was an unforgettable experience, and it showed me just how much I’ve grown.
