Living Like a Puppet: Trapped in His Control

Bound by threads I cannot see,

Lost in shadows endlessly.

A voice that’s mine, yet not my own,

An echo chained, a heart turned stone.

Circles draw me close, then far,

Underneath a ghostly star.

Strings I feel but cannot break,

In dreams I sleep, yet never wake.

Whispers guide my hollowed feet,

A dance I dread, yet must repeat.

Bound and twisted, night and day,

A puppet’s life, in silent sway.

Sophia’s life had started to feel like a dream she couldn’t wake up from, her every action like someone else’s twisted idea of fate.

She’d met Noah only a year ago, and it seemed that with each passing day, he grew more entwined in her life, and in her mind.

At first, he was charming, and attentive, always knowing exactly what she wanted before she could even say it. But now, it was as if he controlled her every move.

It was subtle, almost undetectable. Sophia would start to do something take a new job, make a new friend and somehow, she’d end up right back where she’d started, as if Noah’s presence kept pulling her into his orbit.

When she’d try to go out with friends, she’d feel a strange heaviness settle over her, a creeping exhaustion that would make her cancel plans.

At first, she thought she was just tired. But as the months dragged on, it became clear that the exhaustion only came when she tried to pull away from him.

People around her noticed too, asking if she was okay, if something was wrong. But what could she say? She didn’t understand it herself.

It was like her life was stuck on a loop every week, the same places, the same people, the same small existence, centered entirely around Noah.

One night, after weeks of feeling restless and trapped, Sophia decided to confront him. She had rehearsed what she would say over and over in her mind. But when she sat across from him, staring into his dark eyes, the words vanished.

Her mind went blank, and a strange calm settled over her. She couldn’t remember why she was angry in the first place, couldn’t remember why she wanted to talk to him at all.

Afterward, she couldn’t shake the feeling that her thoughts weren’t her own, that her emotions were just whispers in a language she barely understood. Her friends tried to pull her out, inviting her places, telling her she deserved more, that something was off.

But their words faded as soon as she left their company. By the time she was back home, back with him, it was like she had forgotten she’d even wanted to leave.

Sophia started waking up in the middle of the night, the eerie sensation of being watched crawling over her skin. She’d see shadows out of the corner of her eye, feel cold breaths down her neck. But when she’d turn on the lights, the room was always empty, silent as a grave.

Days blurred into weeks, and slowly, she stopped trying to leave at all. She no longer noticed the strange heaviness, the tiredness that kept her by his side.

She moved through life like a puppet, every action just a response to his unspoken commands. And though a small part of her mind screamed to break free, the rest of her slipped into a haze, accepting this eerie, unbreakable hold he had on her.

And so, Sophia remained trapped, her mind lost in a web she couldn’t see, her life spinning in circles she didn’t understand. Unaware of the invisible strings that pulled her every step, she faded further into a quiet, haunted shell of herself, with no idea that her freedom was slipping further and further away.

If you are feeling trapped, and feel a chill of recognition from the story above then…this is for you.

Life has a way of wrapping invisible threads around us, and sometimes, we don’t realize how tightly they’ve bound us until we feel like we can’t move.

Recently, I’ve felt this weight myself, a sense of being stuck, like my choices and even my thoughts were slipping away. And when my mind wandered to this story, I couldn’t resist sharing it.

⚠️(PS: The names used in this story are just fiction of my imagination, but mind you this is from someone’s real-life experience.)

There was something about her struggle that reminded me and maybe you, too that even when things seem impossible, the desire for freedom never truly fades.

If you feel like your life is moving in circles, like someone else’s hands are pulling the strings, know that you are not alone in this feeling. I believe there’s a spark inside all of us, one that refuses to be extinguished, no matter how dark things feel. You are stronger than you realize, and the power to break free is closer than it seems.

Keep fighting, even in small ways. Hold on to the hope that tomorrow can be different, that the strength to live your own life is within you.

Your story isn’t over it’s just beginning.

You can tell I enjoyed writing this piece, it just made me reflect for a moment🥹, I really hope you honestly enjoyed reading it, please…
