Overcoming Job Rejections as an International Student

When I arrived in the UK, I was full of hope, ready to take on the challenges of balancing studies and work. But reality hit hard when I started job hunting.

Over 50 job applications later, my inbox was still filled with rejections.

You know what I mean, those emails that come in and the first line you read begins with “Thank you for your application, but…Unfortunately

that unfortunately always gives me ick, at some point I got used to it, I didn’t even need to go through my email, I just knew it was a rejection email 😂, why would they email me just to reject me though… it’s just crazy😩😂.

Each one chipped away at my confidence, but giving up wasn’t an option.

I was seriously getting desperate but definitely not to the point of wanting to do anything that would lead me to unfortunate circumstances.

I remember spending late nights tweaking and restructuring my CV and writing cover letters on Indeed, determined to land even the smallest opportunity.

Some days, I’d apply to 10 jobs in a row, only to hear nothing back. It felt like shouting into the void.

I hoped on several interviews, it somehow strengthened my courage for the next, until I hoped the last interview that landed me a positive feedback.

Then, the next morning in January, during the heart of winter, I got an email offering me my first job. It wasn’t glamorous it was a healthcare support worker role but it felt like winning the lottery.

I finally had a chance to prove myself and take one step closer to my goals.

Looking back, those rejections taught me resilience. Each “no” pushed me to refine my approach and stay patient. It’s a reminder that persistence pays off, even when the journey feels impossible.

Now, I encourage others to keep going, because the right opportunity always comes when you least expect it.

However, I have always appreciated the ability to harness high-income skills, which I have developed for myself over the years, and building surely and steadily, putting in the work on myself, taking on online classes to know more, gaining some experiences through volunteering, networking with people can very much land you to a great start, as it has done for me so far.

With the skills I’ve harnessed, I was given an opportunity to be an International Student Ambassador see the services I offer
