Share what you know about the year you were born.
Let me be honest with you, I don’t remember much about the year I was born, except probably crying my lungs out, protesting my entry into a world filled with pain, suffering, and, well, taxes… you know the drill😅
I’d like to think I smiled at my mom too, thanking her for being strong enough to bring me into this world and for the blessings she would pour into it through her life.
But beyond my personal introduction to the world, history books tell me some incredible things happened that year…
PS: I’m just going to mention two places of recognition…
In Nigeria, the most valuable event was the nation’s reawakening to democratic governance a moment of hope and renewal for a country striving for progress.
If I’m to be a little more specific, that year, the country experienced its first full year under civilian rule with President Olusegun Obasanjo, focusing on stabilization and reintegration. The country co-hosted the AFCON with Ghana, reaching the final but losing to Cameroon in a dramatic penalty shootout.
In Cameroon, a key highlight was the continued strengthening of its unity, despite its complexities, and the cultural vibrancy that shaped its identity.
If I’m to be a little more specific, that year, the country celebrated a major victory as the Indomitable Lions won the African Cup of Nations (AFCON), defeating Nigeria in the final. The country also focused on economic reforms under the HIPC Initiative, aiming to reduce debt and boost growth.
On a more personal and profound note, that year also marked the founding of “Gethsemane,” a historic event initiated by none other than my mom.
Inspired by God, she birthed a vision to bring nations together, reaching out with love, purpose, and faith.
Gethsemane has since become a beacon of hope and transformation, touching lives in ways words cannot fully capture.
While I didn’t live through most of these events consciously (for obvious reasons I was too busy being adorable and clueless), their ripple effects have shaped me in profound ways.🥺
Nigeria’s resilience, Cameroon’s strength, and my mom’s unwavering faith are all woven into the fabric of who I am today.
Now here’s a fun little assignment for you:
Can you guess what year all this happened?
Wink, wink 😉 drop your answers in the comments.
To conclude, this is for you…
Be aware that every great event somehow starts with a moment of courage, faith, or inspiration.
Whether it’s shaping a nation or creating a legacy like Gethsemane, never underestimate the power of purpose.
Who knows? Your actions today could be the history someone celebrates tomorrow.
