Living Forever? Sounds Great Until You Think About It…

What are your thoughts on the concept of living a very long life?

Who doesn’t want to live a long life, right? I mean, who wouldn’t love to live forever or at least for centuries like Methuselah clocking in at 969 years, or Adam at 950? I won’t lie, the idea sounds fascinating.

But let’s be honest: living that long in today’s world? Oh, honey, I’d need more than just faith and healthy food. I’d need an stress-proof bubble, a miracle skincare routine, and possibly a lifetime subscription to therapy.😅

You see, back in the days of the Old Testament, people had the audacity to live centuries despite eating that infamous forbidden fruit.🍎 They broke the ultimate rule and still racked up centuries of life…

Fast forward to today, and we’re over here barely making it to 80 with a million dietary restrictions and wellness apps. I mean, how is that fair?

But here’s the thing, I don’t just want a long life; I want a life that means something. A life with purpose.

There’s no point in living long if you’re just coasting through without making a difference. As the late, great Rick Warren emphasized in The Purpose Driven Life, book,

It sounds better put it in his own words…

Without a purpose, life is motion without meaning, activity without direction, and events without reason. Without a purpose, life is trivial, petty, and pointless.”-Rick Warren

Meaning life without purpose is just mere existence.

And trust me, I don’t want to just exist.

For me, purpose means making an impact big or small on the lives of others.

It’s about being the kind of person people look back on and say, “… inspired me, … helped me, …made me better.” (You can fill your name in the blanks…)

It’s about living in a way that glorifies God and spreads hope and light in a world that desperately needs it.

But let’s be real…the way we live today? The grudges we hold, the stress we endure, the unhealthy habits we cling to these are the very things that chip away at our years.

And don’t even get me started on the global greed and strife that shorten lifespans as if it’s a new trend. The Bible reminds us in Psalm 90:12, “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” It’s not just about how many years you live, but how wisely you live them.

Every day I wake up, I try to remind myself…Life is a gift. The simple act of breathing is a miracle we often take for granted. And while I’d love a long life for myself, my parents, and everyone I hold dear, what truly matters is how we live the years we’re given.

Are we living with gratitude? With kindness? With purpose?

So yes, I’d like to live long, but only if it’s a life worth living a life filled with love, faith, and meaningful moments. Because what’s the point of long years without deep purpose?

What about you? Would you rather live a long life, or a purposeful one even if it’s shorter?

Remember, every breath is a reminder of your purpose. You’re here for a reason, even if it’s not clear yet. Embrace each day with gratitude, seek your purpose, and trust God to guide you. The life you live and lead can inspire others far beyond your years.
