So, today’s lesson from Maxwell Daily 365 that I recall telling you I have been reading like it’s my morning ritual really had me sitting and thinking.
I mean, have you ever noticed how some people highly talented, super successful, and seemingly untouchable just suddenly crash and burn?
Like one minute, they’re at the top of their game, and the next, they’re in some wild scandal or just completely falling apart. Well, according to Steven Berglas, a Harvard psychologist,
Success without strong character is like building a mansion on sand sooner or later, it’s going to collapse.
And when it does, you might find yourself stuck in one (or more) of what he calls the four A’s: arrogance, painful feelings of aloneness, destructive adventure-seeking, or adultery.
Ouch. Talk about high stakes.
I won’t lie reading this had me nervously laughing, thinking and doing a quick mental self-check. Like, am I unknowingly spiraling into arrogance because I aced a few things last year moving into this year?
(Spoiler alert: No, I’m still very much figuring this thing called life out.)
But the truth is, it’s so easy to let success get to your head, to isolate yourself, or to chase some thrill just to fill an inner void.
And that’s where the real challenge comes in building character that can sustain success, not just enjoy it for a moment.
And let’s not kid ourselves thinking “Oh, it’ll pass” or “I’ll be fine once I make more money” Oh no, trust me, that is the biggest lie we tell ourselves. Character issues?
They only get worse if left unchecked.
Trust me, I know. That’s why I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting lately asking myself if my actions and my words align in every aspect of life.
Because, honestly, there’s nothing worse than being one person on the outside and someone completely different when no one’s watching.
So here’s the big question I’m asking myself, and you should too are you building a life that can withstand success, or are you just winging it and hoping nothing crumbles beneath you?
Anyways, this is me saying that, let’s be intentional about our growth, not just in our achievements but in our character too. Because at the end of the day, success without integrity is just a ticking time bomb. Stay grounded, stay humble, and if you need to, seek help there’s no shame in it. We are in this together, fam.
