I used to believe that leadership was about titles.
If I could just reach a certain position, then people would listen. Then I’d have influence. Then I’d matter.
But I was wrong.
Early in my life, I had a boss with the fanciest title but zero real leadership. No one truly respected him. No one followed him beyond what was required.
And then there was someone else a team member, no special title, no fancy corner office yet everyone gravitated toward them. Why? Because leadership isn’t about position. It’s about influence.
John Maxwell calls this The Position Myth the false belief that leadership comes from a title. But the truth?
Leadership is earned, not given. It’s about trust, impact, and the way you treat people.
So here’s my big question as always…
Are you waiting for a position to lead? Or are you leading right where you are? Because trust me your influence starts now no matter what you do.
