What strategies do you use to cope with negative feelings?
What can I say? Negative feelings? Huh…Oh, how these lowly uninvited guests just decided to show up at the most inconvenient times, like stress knocking at my door at 2 AM or frustration waltzing in when my to-do list is longer than a banking queue. Yeah, right.

Now, how do I cope? Well, first, let’s address the fact that I am not a robot (though, let’s be honest, sometimes I wish I had zero emotions, just max efficiency).
But since I am very much human, I’ve had to develop a few tricks to keep myself from spiraling into the abyss of overthinking and unnecessary meltdowns.
One: Food. Let’s not even pretend otherwise. You know I cook. I bake. I love a good food experiment. So if life is going sideways, best believe I’m in the kitchen making a masterpiece out of my emotions. Stir-fry pasta? Therapeutic. Banana bread? Mood lifter. Jollof rice? Instant serotonin.

Two: Netflix and selective amnesia. Some people meditate, but I prefer to let a TV show distract me from my problems. I mean, why dwell on my issues when I can hyper-fixate on someone else’s fictional drama? Bonus points if it’s a crime documentary because nothing makes your problems feel smaller than realizing you’re not being chased by the FBI. Trust me, I love binge-watching a good series.

Three: A good, solid rant. Either to my journal, or to you guys here on my blog, or my trusted inner circle, or sometimes (don’t judge) my mirror. 😌🥺There’s something oddly satisfying about saying, “Can you believe this nonsense?” to your reflection while brushing your hair aggressively.😅

Four: Sleep. Or at least, I attempt to. Sometimes, my brain decides 3 AM is the perfect time to replay every embarrassing moment from 2019. But on good days, sleep resets everything.

Or even bury myself with work. And if all else fails?
Five: I pray, take a deep breath, remind myself that no situation is permanent, trust God for his help and keep it moving.
