I once had someone who changed my entire perspective on success. He told me, “The true measure of your impact isn’t in what you accomplish for yourself, but in what you do for others.” At first, I didn’t fully understand what he meant.
After all, isn’t success about setting and reaching personal goals?
But as I grew, I started to see the truth in his words. The leaders I admired the most weren’t just focused on their own achievements they were intentional about adding value to others. They lifted people up, encouraged growth, and made a lasting impact that extended far beyond themselves.
What Does It Mean to Add Value?
Adding value isn’t about grand gestures. It’s about the small, everyday actions that make a difference in someone else’s life. It could be:
• Offering genuine encouragement to someone who’s struggling.
• Sharing knowledge or skills that help others grow.
• Simply listening and making someone feel heard and valued.
That reminds me, Dr John Maxwell said that leaders who prioritize adding value to others are the ones who create the biggest impact. The best part is you don’t need a title or position to do it. Anyone can add value right where they are.
How Can You Start?
1. Be Intentional: Make it a daily habit to look for ways to help or uplift someone.
2. Give Without Expectation: Remember sometimes it isn’t always about what you get in return.
3. Use Your Strengths: What do you do well? How can you use that to serve others?
Look at the end of the day, success isn’t just about how far you go it’s about how many people you help along the way. Hope this motivates you enough to start
