How have you adapted to the changes brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic?
Well, I mean… at this point, I think we all deserve honorary PhDs in “Surviving Global Chaos 101.” Don’t you agree? Seriously. If COVID-19 taught me anything, it’s that life can flip faster than pancakes on a hot Sunday morning and no one was handing out manuals.
At first, when the lockdowns happened, I was like, “Okay, a few weeks inside? Cute. I’ll finally read all those amazing novels, bake banana bread like a TikTok girlie, and maybe become a gym rat in my living room.”
Spoiler alert: Only the banana bread part stuck…no I’m kidding, the only cake I had was bean cake for sure😂🫠.
And even that became a survival mechanism, not a hobby.
Adapting wasn’t glamorous. It was lonely lecture Zoom calls, canceled plans, travel dreams with my girlies evaporating, and realizing just how many things I took for granted like hugging someone without a mini heart attack or seeing smiles not covered by a face mask.
It was about learning new skills too. I had to pivot my mindset, my habits, and my hustle. Hybrid working? Done. Virtual learning? Done. Figuring out how to look semi-presentable on camera with pyjama pants underneath? Done and mastered.
I mean who didn’t, huh…so don’t come for me, please. I need to stay comfortable.
However, historically speaking, pandemics have always reshaped societies the Black Plague did it, the Spanish Flu did it, and guess what? COVID came swinging with the same chaotic energy. But somehow, here we are, still standing, still adapting, still finding ways to make it through.
Personally, the biggest adaptation was mental. Protecting my peace became non-negotiable. I had to carve out more intentional time for myself, prioritize meaningful conversations, connections, and redefine “success” beyond hustle. Oh, and stockpile hand sanitizer like my life depended on it because, well, it kind of did. I mean, at some point I even learnt how to make one for myself.
Through it all, I found hidden strength and hidden creativity.
So I guess what I’m trying to say is,
Adaptation isn’t just about bouncing back to who you were it’s about becoming someone stronger, wiser, and a little bit funnier.
And you?
How have you adapted to your new normal, my dear survivor? Because trust me if you’re reading this, you’re already doing better than you think.
