What can I say… I truly believed I was doing something revolutionary blogging straight from my heart with no structure, no plan, no SEO, just vibes. I thought, “Who needs keywords when you’re writing from your heart?” Right? Wrong. Very wrong.
Let’s rewind.
It was during my early “blogging hideout” days you know, back when blogging was my cozy little escape from the noise of social media. I had this fresh post, deeply personal, so raw anyone could cry. I clicked publish with my chest, thinking, “Ah, this one will touch the everyone who reads it.”
And it did. Zero likes and just about 2 views.
Not even half a dozen.
Nobody read it. I was crushed. I thought my blog was broken. I refreshed the page like 20 times still nothing.
So I went into that panic mode . I stayed up all night (classic me) on my reading table with coffee and self-pity and snacks as my co-authors.
That’s when I learned that I didn’t optimize a single thing about my page. No title tags, no meta description, no headings, no internal links, not even a hashtag. The blog post had no idea what it was doing online, and neither did Google.
Turns out, blogging isn’t just emotional intelligence and good vibes. It’s also strategy. It’s knowing that your heartfelt message needs a roadmap, or it’ll just sit there, lost in cyberspace, like your socks after laundry day.
Since then, I’ve changed. Oh yes. I SEO-proof my posts like my life depends on it. Keyword research? Done. Headlines that actually make sense? Check. Clear formatting? Double check. I even learned a sneaky trick that skyrocketed my impressions to over 6k globally. (No gatekeeping, don’t worry I’ll write about that next).
But more importantly, that flop taught me that just because something is deep and personal doesn’t mean it’ll automatically reach people. You have to package it, present it, and position it just like any good food. It’s the taste and the presentation that counts for me.
So yeah, the blogging mistake I’ll never repeat again is;
- Posting without a plan.
- Posting without structure.
- Posting like Google doesn’t exist.
What it taught me is that…
Blogging is equal parts heart and hustle.
And if you ever find yourself in that no-views corner of the internet…Don’t cry, simply restrategize and observe what works best for you.
Until next time. Take care.
