Do you have a quote you live your life by or think of often?
Of course, I do.
But you know me,
I’m not out here living by Pinterest mantras or TikTok advice like
“Just manifest it, sis!”
Nah, I live by something deeper—
Something tried, tested, and tattooed in my bones through life’s wahala.
“Godliness with contentment is great gain.”
Simple. Scriptural. Solid.
It’s not the kind of quote that makes you rich overnight
(or maybe it does, depending on how you define “rich”),
but I’ll tell you,
this little line has kept me sane over the years,
when I felt like quitting school, quitting life, quitting myself.
You see,
I’ve sat in rooms where everyone had more.
More money.
More followers.
More “God when?” kinda soft-life aesthetics.
And there I was, balancing surviving as a student and boiled eggs and ramen noodles dinners.
But I had peace.
I had God.
And I had joy that wasn’t an “on sale” tag at ASDA.
There was a time I stayed silent during a misunderstanding.
Oh, I wanted to explode.
I wanted to print a whole PowerPoint presentation to prove my point.
But God whispered,
“Godliness, baby. Not gossip.”
And I walked away, silently…
Tears in my chest, pride in my pocket.
That moment taught me that silence sometimes screams louder than shouting.
And obedience? Even louder.
I’ve had doors slammed in my face,
Watched others get picked first—
While I clapped from the sidelines,
pretending my heart wasn’t sore.
But I kept going.
I kept sowing.
Because contentment isn’t laziness—
It’s trusting that what God has for me, He’s not giving to someone else by accident.
I’ve learned to be grateful for what I have,
Even if it’s just noodles, WiFi, and one clean bedsheet.
I’ve learned to live in a rhythm that’s not dictated by trends but by the Truth of His Word.
So yeah, JP.
I do have a quote.
It’s not flashy.
But it’s fed me when my fridge was empty,
Held me up when my heart was dead heavy,
And reminded me that God + peace of mind equals everything, so dare I say again that—
“Godliness with contentment is great gain.”
I don’t just quote it.
I try my best daily to honestly live by it.
Even when it’s hard.
Especially when it’s hard.
Because darling, what’s the point of gaining the whole world
if you’re too anxious to enjoy it?
