— My Battle With Both
“Are you character-driven or emotionally driven?”
Now, why would someone ask me that?
Do I look like a walking psychology test?
Because the way life has been testing me lately,
you’d think I was on trial for both.
Let’s be honest—
Some days, I feel like pouring hot oil on somebody’s head, (pssst…I’m kidding😅)
But then again… character whispers,
“Don’t do it, love. You have a future ahead.”
And I pause, think.
I swallow my pride like it’s a vitamin C capsule,
Because I’ve learned that—
Feelings scream. Character whispers.
Being emotionally driven?
Sure, I’ve been there.
Sent paragraphs I regretted.
Stayed silent when I should’ve screamed.
Clapped back. Then cried later.
I let my tears become my voice,
And my triggers wrote the script.
But baby, being character driven?
That’s the real flex.
It’s choosing dignity over dragging.
It’s walking away from drama like,
“I serve a living God. I don’t have time to fight over nonsense.”
It’s knowing who you are,
Even when people try to misname you with their projections.
One day, I stayed silent during a heated moment.
Not because I didn’t have the words (trust me, I had a monologue ready),
But because the Holy Spirit nudged me:
“Don’t burn bridges just because you’re on fire.”
That moment? Changed me.
See, emotions are wild—
They rise like fufu on a hot Sunday afternoon.
They can drown you if you let them drive.
But character?
That’s built in the quiet decisions,
The unseen sacrifices,
The “I’ll take the high road, even though I hate heights” type of moves.
It’s tough.
Character doesn’t always clap for you.
It won’t trend online.
But it protects your peace,
Preserves your name,
And builds the kind of life that doesn’t fall apart every time emotions crash.
I’ve realized—
This difference? It’s not small.
It’s life-altering.
It’s relationship-saving.
It’s legacy-defining.
So yes—
I still feel deeply.
But I don’t live emotionally.
I choose principle over pettiness.
Faith over frustration.
God over gossip.
Because feelings fade…
But character sustains.
