Letter to the Friend Who Hurt Me

26/07/2025 12:38 PM

Dear friend,

I never thought I’d write this.

I never thought we’d end up here.

I trusted you.

With secrets.

With seasons.

With the softest parts of me.

But somewhere in the laughter,

the late-night calls,

the promises to always “be there”—

you slipped away.

Or maybe you just… stopped caring.

“Even my close friend, someone I trusted, one who shared my bread, has turned against me.”— Psalm 41:9

I kept asking myself—

What did I do wrong?

Did I speak too much?

Or not enough?

Did I expect too much from someone

who never planned to stay?

I replayed moments like reruns,

searching for the one scene

where it all shifted.

And then came the betrayal.

The silence.

The sharpness in words that used to be soft.

The way you chose distance over explanation.

I thought forgiveness meant

pretending it didn’t hurt.

But it still does.

Somehow, today during my devotion the first scripture

in the Bible that hit me was this…

“Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” — Colossians 3:13

So this letter, Friend…¡

Is not to drag you through my pain.

It’s definitely not to beg for closure.

It’s not even for you, really.

It’s for me.

To lay it all down.

The anger.

The confusion.

The ache of losing a friend

I thought I’d have for life.

And as I write,

I’m reminded that even

Jesus knew this feeling too.

“Jesus replied, ‘Do what you came for, friend.’

Then the men stepped forward, seized Jesus and arrested him.”— Matthew 26:50

Even He called Judas “friend,”

in the moment of betrayal.

So I whisper it too.

Friend—

Even if it hurts.

Even if it’s over.

Because forgiveness doesn’t erase the scar,

but it frees me from carrying the wound.

So here’s my final line:

I release you.

I forgive you.

I pray you find peace,

just as I’m finding mine.

Xo 💋
