Heartbreak Between Friends:

A Poetic Mini-Series

I. The Shattering

I didn’t know

friendship could break like this.

Not loud,

not with a fight—

just a quiet crumbling

until I was holding pieces

of what we used to be.

“Even my close friend, someone I trusted, one who shared my bread, has turned against me.” — Psalm 41:9

I kept asking—why?

But silence doesn’t answer.

II. The Ache

It wasn’t romantic,

but it was heartbreak all the same.

I missed the “you okay?” texts,

the inside jokes,

the way your presence

made heavy days lighter.

But then you stopped showing up.

And I stopped asking you to.

“Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.”— Proverbs 13:12

The hope we’d fix it

was making me sick.

III. The Release

I thought forgiveness

meant we’d go back

to how it was.

But forgiveness isn’t time travel—

it’s surrender.

It’s letting the ache soften,

even if the friendship doesn’t return.

“Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”— Colossians 3:13

I forgive you—

but I won’t chase you.

IV. The Healing

Slowly,

the sting turned into a scar.

The memories still visit,

but they don’t own me anymore.

I found new laughter,

new trust,

new roots.

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”— Psalm 147:3

Even this heartbreak

was not too small for God to heal.

V. The Lesson

Now I know:

Some friendships aren’t meant for forever.

And that’s okay.

They shape you,

stretch you,

and sometimes,

they break you—

but they leave space

for what God has next.

Heartbreak between friends is real.

But so is healing.

And so is hope.
