Prompts, Storytelling

The One Day Everyone Pretends to Love You…Take A Guess…🗓️

Can you share a positive example of where you’ve felt loved?

Let’s get one thing straight these prompts are starting to sound like therapy sessions. “When have you felt loved?” Seriously?

Anyway, since I’ve got some time to kill, let me humor you with my answer. Spoiler alert: it’s cringe-worthy.

So, if we’re being honest, I think the one day of the year I can say I feel genuinely loved is…drumroll…my birthday. Yep, the day I was born into this crazy world of love and chaos.

Now, let’s rewind to baby me. I don’t remember much (obviously), but I’m pretty sure everyone was fawning over me giving kisses, holding me like I was a rare treasure, and making those coochie-coochie sounds. Prime time, right?

Fast forward to adulthood, and birthdays have taken on a different tone. The coochie-coochie sounds? Gone.

But the love? Oh, it’s there just dressed up as flowers, prayers, gift boxes and a whole lot of attention.

People write entire essays (read: overly long birthday posts) about how amazing I am. Some call me, and even though the phone awkwardly drops mid-conversation because “bad network,” I know they care. Others send me money (the true love language, let’s not lie).

And the brave ones? They make the effort to show up, to sit with me, laugh with me, and celebrate another year of my fabulous existence.

There’s this bittersweet moment when someone says, “I prayed for you today.” And I’m like, wow, thanks! Meanwhile, I’m also wondering, What exactly did they pray for? Did they ask for my success? My happiness? Or just that I don’t embarrass myself this year? Either way, it feels like love wrapped in awkward birthday moments and sweet, meaningful gestures.

But you know, here’s the thing about feeling loved: it doesn’t always have to come with grand gestures. It’s in the little things. Like when a friend texts you first thing in the morning with a silly meme,

or when someone offers to bring cake because “it’s your day!” Even when I catch a stranger smiling at me for no reason it’s like the universe giving me a tiny nod of love.

So yeah, birthdays are my prime example of when I feel loved. It’s chaotic, heartwarming, and slightly overwhelming, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

What about you? When was the last time you felt truly, unapologetically loved? Think about it. Cherish it. And hey, don’t wait for the next birthday to remind someone else they’re loved. Maybe send that meme today trust me, it works.

  1. Showers of warm greeting from ushers just the other day I attended the new year church service at a church near my estate. One week later I went for Sunday service….I was about to say it’s me my comrades no one bothered 😳

  2. Ah, birthdays—where everyone suddenly remembers you exist, like you’re a rare celestial event! Loved your take on how the grand parade of affection lasts for 24 hours, but the ‘real love’ is in those everyday moments. Here’s to appreciating both—the big birthday bash and the quiet ‘you’ve got spinach in your teeth’ honesty from a true friend!

    1. Honestly, I couldn’t help but point it out coz its exactly what happened to me, I had a very slow and quiet week up until the 14th of January, my birthday, suddenly my phone started blowing up with 100 messages, people I haven’t spoken with in 7 – 10 years….suddenly reached out…its crazy. But I honestly appreciate the real ones.
