Leadership Without Vision Hits Different… Here’s Why.

This morning, as I flipped through Maxwell Daily 365 because apparently, I enjoy reading these life lessons served with a side of humility that helps me ponder.

And so I came across something between the pages that stopped me in my tracks:

Vision is everything for a leader.”

And when I say everything, I mean everything. No vision? No direction. No spark. You’re essentially a car with a full tank but no GPS just out there, cruising aimlessly, probably getting honked at.

It hit me hard because, honestly, I’ve had my fair share of “driving in circles” moments. Those times when you’re busy, hustling, doing something, but deep down, you know you’re just running on a treadmill.

No target, no end goal just vibes. It’s like being the captain of a ship with no map, confidently shouting, “Full speed ahead!” heck like Jack in The Pirates of the Caribbean movie…while everyone on board wonders where the heck you’re going. Goodness gracious, it’s awfully embarrassing, right?

But then Maxwell goes on to say something that feels personal.

If you don’t have a vision, it’s not the end of the world. It’s not like you’re doomed to roam around forever.

Instead, it’s time to pause and look inward.

What drives me? What keeps me awake at night besides bad coffee and life’s existential crises? What do I really want to achieve? And if the answers are still fuzzy, that’s okay too.

Sometimes, he says, the best move is to partner with someone whose vision resonates with you. Think about Walt and Roy Disney one had the dream, the other had the know-how, and together, they created magic.

So here I am, asking myself the hard questions:

Do I have a clear vision? Am I sparking a fire in others, or am I just trying to keep my flame from fizzling out? Honestly some days, I feel like I’m Walt. On other days, I’m just… I mean I feel completely lost.

What about you? Are you leading with vision, or are you stuck in the loop of “busy but going nowhere”?

Take a moment to figure it out, and remember vision isn’t just about seeing the future, it’s about creating it. I believe you’ve got this. We are in this together. Cheers.

Speaking of Vision, you might want to check out the book review I made on this amazing book titled Building Your Vision, I am in awe, and many people like myself have had brilliant testimonies about it.

  1. You summed it up perfectly. It’s hard to ignite a fire in others when you don’t have one yourself. As a leader, it’s important to have a vision that people can look up to and follow.
