The Power of Recognition

There was a time I gave everything I had to a project late nights, extra effort, all in. When it wrapped up, I was proud… but not one person said, “Thank you.” No acknowledgment, no feedback just silence. I didn’t need a parade, but that moment stuck with me.

Then I promised myself that no one on my team would go unseen.

In today’s reading, John Maxwell said,

People don’t work hard because they have to. They work hard because they want to and recognition fuels that.

And I guess he’s right.

I resolved in trying to start doing three simple things:

1. Calling out the effort, not just the result.

2. Making gratitude more specific and personal.

3. Celebrating both small wins and big victories.

You wouldn’t believe how much morale shifted.

People would get lit up. They’d worked harder. Not because they were forced but because they felt seen.

Recognition doesn’t cost a thing but it can change everything.

So, who around you needs to hear, “I see you. And I appreciate you”? Say it. It matters more than you think.

I’m sure but now, if you’ve been following my updates, you’ll know that I’ve been thinking of starting a podcast🤔 to share my experiences of being an international student in the UK and some helpful tips and motivation. I’ll also love to know how best I can make my podcast more engaging and interesting with your suggestions.

I hope you join me on this journey, I’ll be sharing updates on my progress with you soon.
