A friend in need is a friend indeed…so they say…
Sometimes I wonder, what kind of friend am I?
I like to think I’m a good one.
The kind who shows up.
The kind who listens.
The kind who stands beside you
when the world turns its back.
I’ve been that person.
I’ve poured into people.
I’ve been the shoulder, the safety net,
the “I’ve got you” in someone’s darkest hour.
But what happens when the roles reverse?
When the one who always shows up
is the one left standing alone?
I hoped she was my friend.
But lately…
I’ve started weighing that word — friend.
You see,
a real friend notices the silence in your voice,
asks why your eyes don’t smile anymore,
senses when something’s off
and chooses care over conflict.
But instead, she chose distance.
Because of one small thing —
not done in spite,
but out of discomfort,
out of not wanting to feel like the odd one out.
Imagine sitting among your friend’s friends,
and suddenly, you don’t exist.
No glance. No acknowledgment.
You fade.
So you leave.
You slam the door,
not out of rage,
but out of heartbreak.
Because you’d rather be alone
than surrounded by venom in pretty words.
By smiles that hide daggers.
By company that feels lonelier than solitude.
Yes, I’m in that place now.
That mental space
where trust feels like a risk I’m not ready to take.
And maybe, for a while,
you’ll see more posts like this.
Raw. Heavy. Honest.
But healing takes time.
This is my heart,
laid bare for anyone who might understand.
And if you do,
I hope you know
you’re not alone.
Wishing you a peaceful week ahead.
And if you’ve ever had to walk away
to protect your peace,
you did the right thing.
Cheers.
