Planned Neglect

Sometimes life feels overwhelming not because we’re doing too little, but because we’re trying to do too much. Let me keep it real with you. We’re out here trying to fix everything, attend to everyone, juggle responsibilities, and still wonder why we feel drained. That’s where planned neglect comes in.

Planned neglect isn’t about being careless or irresponsible. It’s about being intentional about what you choose to ignore so you can focus on what actually matters. It’s looking at your endless to-do list and saying, “Nope, this can wait. My peace comes first.”

I’ll give you an example. A friend of mine was constantly frustrated because her house wasn’t spotless. She would spend hours cleaning every day, yet her goals starting her side business, learning new skills were on the back burner.

One day, she decided to “plan” her neglect. She allowed the dishes to sit in the sink overnight, folded laundry tomorrow instead of today, and used that extra time to build her website. Fast forward, she launched her business website and guess what? The world didn’t collapse because she skipped a chore.

Lessons To Learn From This…

Not everything deserves your attention.

Focus is a choice, and energy is limited. Peace > Perfection.

Sometimes neglecting small things helps you protect your sanity.

Neglect is power when it’s planned. Ignore distractions so you can pour into priorities.

Progress often requires trade-offs. You can’t give 100% everywhere, and that’s okay I’ve had to learn that for myself.

Final Note…

Stop letting guilt trick you into being everywhere and doing everything for everyone.

Planned neglect is really about wisdom it’s about choosing where your energy goes and letting the rest slide without shame and embracing it.
